Cultivation of Feed Corn for maximum results

Corn has long been cultivated by Indonesian farmers and is the second staple crop after rice. As a result, corn has a vital role in the agribusiness-based industry. Constraints in corn cultivation that cause low corn productivity include pests and diseases. Farmer’s current control efforts are using pesticides or other synthetic materials that are not environmentally friendly or Integrated Pest control.

CORN PLANT

  1. Corn is the main food crop commodity
  2. Corn for consumption and the main ingredient of animal feed
  3. The need for corn continues to increase every year
  4. So there are a lot of companies engaged in the corn seed sector
  5. This proves that the corn seed business is quite promising

GROWING CONDITIONS

  • Rainfall between 85 – 200 mm/month
  • Enough sunshine
  • Optimum temperature 23°C – 30°C
  • Soil pH between 5.6 – 7.5
  • Flat areas are better than sloping areas
  • Altitude between 50 – 450 masl

SOIL ACIDITY

  1. Corn plants have maximum viability at acidity between 5.5 to 7.
  2. The degree of acidity is on a 14 scale, for a scale of 1 to 7 is acidic, while between 8 to 14 is alkaline

PLANTING STAGES
  1. Preparing the seeds
  2. Land preparation
  3. Planting
  4. Plant maintenance
  5. Harvesting

Seed

We recommend that the seeds used are good seeds with the following considerations:

  • Growing power can be more than 90%
  • Has high yield potential
  • Resistant to pests and diseases
  • Have a high level of plant uniformity

LAND PROCESSING

  1. Land plowing
  2. Making beds
  3. The height of the bed is approximately 20 cm
  4. Circular sewer construction
  5. Construction of drainage channels
  6. The goal is that the water can be immediately completed/not flooded

PLANTING

The things that need to be considered in planting are as follows:

  1. Spacing 20 x 70 cm, for seeds planted 1 seed/hole
  2. Make a planting hole with a dibble in a depth of 3-5 cm
  3. Seed requirement/ha ± 71428 kernels assuming 1 kg 4500 kernels
  4. If 1 kg contains 4500 kernels then the seed requirement = 71,428 / 4500 = 15 – 16 kg
  5. If the percentage grows 90% then the need for seeds = 1.1 x 71428 = 78570 = 17.5 kg

PLANT CARE

Things that include plant care include:

  • Embroidery: is replanting plants that do not grow to maintain plant populations
  • Weeding: cleaning the grass around the plant
  • Making foundation: is covering / or raising the mound with the surrounding soil so that the plant can be sturdy
  • Irrigation: is crucial and done on time, because delays in the water supply can reduce yields
