How to Make Compost

How to Make Compost Fertilizer is discussed in full here, friends. Before entering the discussion. What is meant by compost, comrades, please comrades, Compost Cultivation Method –

Compost is one of the essential components of organic farming. The soil needs solid fertilizer and liquid nutrients, and microorganisms so that nutrients are not easily dissolved by rainwater or irrigation water.

Compost Cultivation Method

Compost is the result of partial/incomplete decomposition of a mixture of organic materials that can be artificially accelerated by populations of various microbes in warm, humid, and aerobic or anaerobic environmental conditions.

Making compost is not difficult. Everyone can do it. Every farmer or anyone who wants to make compost will have their technique because we can use almost all organic material to make compost. The composting process itself is a natural process carried out by microbes that utilize organic matter as an energy source. Compost Cultivation Method –

So that this natural process does not take a long time, making compost needs regulation and control. For example, it regulates a mixture of organic matter, regulating aeration, controlling stirring/mixing, and adding composting activators (microbes).

The composting, which has been carried out at Merten’s organic farm, use rice straw, animal dung (cows and goats), grass used for animal feed, and husk ash. Sometimes also added sawdust mushroom media waste. In addition to these organic materials, composting is greatly helped by homemade activators. Compost Cultivation Method –

Many composting activator products or commonly called starters, are sold. However, as explained above, composting is a natural process. Because of that, we can make our own or rather breed our microbes from nature that can speed up composting.

Homemade compost activator/starter
The activator we use is made from animals’ rumen (rumen is animal feces obtained from slaughterhouse waste). The rumen is fermented using sugar and pineapple. This natural activator is then sprayed on the compost pile and then stirred. Stirring is done periodically. That is three times a week. Composting time if using the activator lasts for 15 days. The result is quality compost.

Good compost has the following characteristics (id.wikipedia.org):

  1. Dark brown to black, similar to the color of the earth,
  2. Insoluble in water, although some compost can form a suspension,
  3. The C/N ratio is 10 – 20, depending on the raw material and the degree of humification,
  4. The sound effect, when applied to soil,
  5. The temperature is approximately the same as the ambient temperature, and
  6. No smell.
